While MS affects millions of people worldwide, here are a few of the reasons why we continue to raise awareness and funds to help find a cure.
Dan Pimenta1964-2017
Dan Pimenta - My husband Dan was so many things to so many people it is astounding. Aside from being a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend he was an inspiration. The incredible impact he had in his 53 years with us is a beautiful thing and we try to celebrate what he stood for and who he was every day. If you ask our son, Jake, to describe the kind of person his dad was he would say that is almost impossible. “It's always so impossible to describe him. He was kind, boastful, loud, angry, hilarious, rude, loving and cheerful all at once. Someone described (I wish I could remember who!) my dad as the ‘happiest, angriest guy you could ever meet’ and that about sums it up. We will never get another Dan Pimenta. That sounds like some trite cliché but if you met him then you know just how true that was. I love you dad and today we celebrate your life because you would accept nothing less.” One thing we can all agree is Dan was passionate. He was that way about his family, friends, his job as a Peabody firefighter, and spreading awareness and raising funds for Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, and Cancer. Yes, my husband lived with MS but he did not let MS define who he was. Our daughter, Stephanie explains it best, “My dad was killed while doing something he loved, cycling. He used riding as a medicine to help subside his MS, he was truly remarkable. After losing him I took up cycling to carry on his legacy, and I'm thankful every day to be able to do something so significant.” The Cape Cod Getaway (“CCG”) team Dan created, Peabody Fire Honor Guard continues to ride in the CCG every year to continue what Dan began almost 17 years ago and to keep his legacy alive.

Michael G. Monroe1967-2020
Michael G. Monroe - Mike was a devoted son, sibling, foster father, uncle and friend. Mike worked in the hospitality industry for many years. Most recently before his passing in May 2020 Mike was a V.I.P. Media Ticket Taker at Gillette Stadium.
Mike was diagnosed with MS late in 2O08. He kept a positive attitude in the face of his challenges with his MS diagnosis. He began to depend on the use of a walker, wheelchair and finally a motorized wheelchair. Although Mike was confined to a wheelchair, those that just met him saw beyond the chair and right to the man with the smile so bright you could see it from across the Gillette Stadium concourse, his heart of gold, the sincerity when he spoke to you, his laugh, and mostly his kindness. Mike made an impression on those he met and has been greatly missed at all stadium events. He was a staple there, many people trying to go through his gate just to say hello and see that kind smile there to greet them. Mike’s courage and determination to live a “normal” life with MS is an inspiration and a reminder for us all to find a silver lining, enjoy life and surround yourself with family and friends. |
